Insolation AR is intended to be used "on location", i.e. while you're on site viewing a property or building.
However, occasionally, it may be useful to view insolation data for a remote location. By using teleport, you can do just that.
Here are a couple of reasons you might like to teleport to a remote location:
- View the path of the sun for a holiday home or similar
- View the sun's path on the map for a different address
- Test your understanding of how sunlight varies from location to location around the world
Note: the teleport function is not enabled by default, as it's not something everyone needs and has the potential to be confusing unless you understand how it works.
How to teleport
Once Teleport is enabled in Settings, you'll see a search button at the bottom of the main screen.
Tapping this brings up a search page where you can search for locations using either an address, place name (e.g. city), lat/lon coordinates, or a three word address.
What happens when you teleport?
When you select a search result (other than Current location), teleport is activated. The camera on your device still shows your immediate surroundings and the app uses your device's current orientation (e.g. facing southwest, tilted to 90 degrees), but everything else changes:
- The chart shows insolation data for the remote location
- The AR overlay information (sun paths or bands) appear as the sun would for the remote location
- The map shows the remote location
How do I know if teleport is active?
A message is displayed when teleport is first activated (i.e. by selecting a remote location in Search). Additionally, a green exit button is shown at the top of the screen, and when viewing the map, the location indicator is green instead of the standard blue used to indicate current location:
How do I exit teleport?
You can exit teleport by tapping the close button at the top of the screen. Alternatively, select Current location in the search screen.
Teleport and calibration
Generally, you should calibrate before using the teleport function. Starting calibration while viewing a remote location will exit teleport mode so that you are viewing data for the device's current location (required in order to calibrate).
